Editors of print media continually try to determine "what sells" in the market of mass-media. Readers enjoy a variety of news topics from a variety of geographic locations about transportation, science education, etc. Smaller newspapers must rely on larger outlets in order to provide wide-ranging, non-local coverage. Editors need to edit newswire copy stories sent from larger media outlets by trimming stories, eliminating repetition & clutter, and reading the entire story before editing.
